Tina Pavlou, Jessica Hayden-Smith and Samuel Hayden-Smith, co-founders of Bower Botanicals, on the villa steps at their retreat in Italy

Bower Botanicals in Global Man and Global Woman

Something we're quietly proud of: both sides of the founding team have been interviewed this year. Samuel spoke to Global Man, and Jessica and Tina spoke to Global Woman Magazine. Two very different conversations, but the same thread runs through both.

Samuel in Global Man

This one starts with a question we couldn't answer well. Bower didn't begin with a business plan, it began at the wellness retreats we run in Italy, where guests kept asking what they should actually be taking. Every time we looked at what was on the shelf, we found the same story: a short list of ingredients we liked, buried under a long list we didn't.

The interview spends a good deal of time on what isn't in the tub, which is rather the point. No artificial sweeteners, no colours, no flavourings, no fillers bulking out the scoop. The formula was developed with UK biochemists around raw, natural ingredients chosen to work together, rather than a long label designed to look impressive.

Jessica and Tina in Global Woman

Jess and Tina's conversation comes at Bower from the other direction, through the retreats themselves. They talk about The Unknown Retreats, the philosophy they call The Purity Path, and how a supplement came to sit alongside the rest of that work rather than apart from it. They also talk candidly about running something together, and about where they want to take the retreats next across Europe and the Mediterranean.

Their piece ran first, back when Daily Greens was still an upcoming launch rather than a product on a shelf, which makes it a useful record of what we set out to make.

The thread running through both

Read side by side, the two interviews land in the same place. Make something you'd be happy to hand to a guest at the end of a retreat, be straight about what's in it, and don't pad it out to look better on a label.

That includes being straight about where we are. Certified organic and B Corp status are both goals we're working toward, and neither is something we hold yet. We'd rather say so plainly in a national interview than let it blur.

The blend we made for our retreat guests, now made for everyone. One clean scoop a day.
